The Wardens are an organization seeking to store and protect Tanu. Later, their goal is to stop the Riven from keeping the Mothergates open, and therefore to preserve the multiverse.
Background[]
The earliest human Keepers hunted by the Riven long ago, at the beginning of the War of Sundering, could be considered the first Wardens. Since then, the organization has become far more cohesive and diligent in its protection of the Tanu.
They were once powerful, but have since dwindled in will and stature. Many Keepers have left the organization or died in the war. By The Box and the Dragonfly, fewer than 200 Wardens remain.
Description[]
The Wardens are defenders, protectors of the Tanu. While they work hard to secure their own collections, and now possess some of the world's most powerful instruments, they continue to steal from the Riven's collections and prevent them from controlling all Tanu.
Wardens also seek to recruit new Keepers to aid them in their cause. They keep warehouses full of Tanu to attract those with the talent, determining their specific aptitudes; each new or prospective Keeper is given a leestone for their protection. After progressing through the Find, Keepers are invited to join the Wardens' cause.
The Wardens monitor their current and prospective members, as well as their families.
Cells[]
Chicago Wardens[]
The Warren is the Wardens' greatest refuge in Chicago.
They are led by Mr. Meister, the Chief Taxonomer, though he has been carrying out these duties since before the title existed.
Wardens' Council[]
The Wardens have at least one other active stronghold in a different place.
Trivia[]
- After recruiting Horace and Chloe, Mr. Meister states that "others" will be making their way to the Wardens soon. He turns out to be correct, but his specific meaning and reasoning is incredibly unclear.
