Passkeys are a type of Tanu which allow those touching them to pass through specific walls. The vast majority of passkeys are Tan'kindi, but some are Tan'ji.
Description[]
Passkeys resemble white, kite-shaped rocks, about the size of an eggplant. They are usually set into stone walls so as to blend in.
Dipping a finger into a passkey feels like touching cool, very thin water; passing through a wall while using one feels tingly.
Properties[]
To use a passkey, the user must dip their fingers inside its incorporeal surface to find the tumbler inside. The tumbler is a small cube which, when gripped by the user, allows them to pass through the specific wall next to the passkey. The tumbler will rotate as the user walks.
Passkeys are fairly common, and are considered less powerful among Tan'kindi. Most bind to an object or a location, but a rare few passkeys are Tan'ji and can bond to a Keeper.
Known Passkeys[]
There is a passkey set into the wall of the raven cloister.
Trivia[]
- The oldest passkeys are among the oldest of all Tanu.
- Passkeys are similar to the Alvalaithen, but dramatically less powerful, to the point where the Alvalaithen can't even be considered a member of this category.
