The Nevren is the field around a fused Keeper which distorts the Medium and stops nearby Tanu from functioning.
Background[]
The Nevren is a field, an area of effect. Most Tanu cannot function within the Nevren, since the Medium isn't flowing.
Description[]
The first sign of a Nevren is often a Keeper's creeping feeling of cold. As the Keeper moves closer to the Nevren's epicenter, its effect hits suddenly and in a consistent place, with a deep, numbing, derealizing chill. While inside the Nevren, the bond between Keeper and instrument is temporarily cut, leaving the Keeper unable to use or sense their instrument. This has deeply distressing effects on their mind and their experience of reality; they may encounter delusions or become unaware of their own body. Self-talk, even if nonsensical and mindless, can help the Keeper continue walking despite the Nevren's effects. The closer a Keeper's bond with their instrument, the worse these effects; the tightly bonded Riven, as well as Keepers with multiple instruments like Mr. Meister, are unable to pass through the Nevren without seriously risking dispossession.
When leaving the Nevren, a Keeper encounters a pins-and-needles-like sensation, a burning feeling in their eyes, and an almost unbearable warmth, coupled with the immense relief of the bond returning.
Locations[]
A relatively weak Nevren is located in the rear entrance to the House of Answers. Its unknown fused Keeper is likely entombed below metal plates in the tunnel floor.
Vithra's Eye is a powerful Nevren protecting the entrance to the Warren. A trip around the edge of Vithra's Eye takes noticeably longer than the full trip through the House of Answers Nevren. It is so powerful that no Keeper can pass through its center without becoming dispossessed, although multiple have tried.
All of the Wardens' most important refuges are said to be protected by the Nevren.
