Jithandras are personalized Tanu used by the Wardens for illumination, as keys, and as identification.

Background[]

Description[]

The Chicago Wardens' jithandras are designed as long crystals mounted in a curling silver flower, hung on a long black chain which reaches the floor at full length. Each crystal glows with a color unique to its Keeper's type of instrument.

Properties[]

Jithandras' glow is their main property as Tanu.

When dipped into the lake of Vithra's Eye, a jithandra can be used to turn the water solid for eleven seconds at a time. This is accompanied by a soft, immense, crackling roar. After a single dip, the water will lift and lighten in color, becoming gray, in an area the size of a manhole cover. The solidified water is shiny and translucent, but not cold or slick like ice; instead, it feels wet and organic underfoot.
