Origin[]
Early History[]
Passkeys are some of the oldest Tanu.
The Altari[]
According to ancient manuscripts studied by Mr. Meister, the Altari lived quietly among humans for a time, just beneath the surface.
For unclear reasons, discord grew between humans and the Altari, which eventually led them to go slightly deeper into hiding. Even so, many remained friendly, giving humans Tan'kindi as gifts.
The War of Sundering[]
Centuries later, it was discovered that some humans also possessed the talent to become Tan'ji. Some Altari did not take well to this development, considering themselves to be the rightful owners of all the Tanu. A splinter group formed, calling themselves the Kesh'kiri, and began hunting human Keepers and attacking human-sympathetic Altari. This conflict escalated into a civil war.
The human Keepers caught up in this conflict eventually became the Wardens, allying with many human-sympathetic Altari in the process.
Over the time since, all the parties involved have declined in strength and power. The Riven are no longer capable of making powerful Tanu; the Wardens have lost many of their members to defection, desertion, or death; and most Altari have left the conflict, going deep into hiding and refusing to fight.
